Lana2010:

I guess it depends on how one defines "true fan". I don't mean that people who don't like Smallville can't love Superman. I'm using the term to describe people who have the best understanding of the character, by which I mean the man beneath the costume. Those who can't enjoy watching a Superman story without seeing him fly around in a cape at regular intervals to remind them they're watching a Superman story tend to hate Smallville. But others, like me, find the character himself more than interesting enough to sustain the story.

It's not just seeing him bust out his powers that I enjoy. I enjoy seeing the development of his moral philosphies. I like seeing how he struggles with balancing his desire to keep his powers from putting others in danger and his desire to become more public with his powers.

Again, the way I see it, it comes down to substance versus flash. I know the thread isn't about Smallville vs. Superman Returns, I just find SR a handy interpretation of the character to compare to Smallville's interpretation. One represents flash to me, the other represents substance. - mojojackson

You're treading a fine line here, mojo. Everyone here knows about your dislike of SR, but NOTHING gives you the right to say who's a true fan and who isn't. - Lana2010

I think this episode will either give the series a much needed boost, or will kill it.

I have not watched the show in two years, and this episode will be the deciding factor if I catch up, or tune out.

Besides, Welling is now old enough to take over the role in films. A little more beef, and he'd be good. - LOKI

I love how People Who Dont watch the show Criticise it. its Different something that has never been seen Before. its a really long origin Story. Its also another Earth if you will. As soon as he Becomes Superman. the show is over. However He's encountered Stuff that Superman has Encountered. but yes Its the Longest Running Superhero Show, Longer than Lois and Clark, and that was about Superman. as far as Past its prime, lol. Smallville is 2 shows. the first one Ended at season 7. were only a year and a half into the New show also Called Smallville. this show is still Building up steam. it all Ends this year or the next then we will have No Supes to watch. so enjoy it while youcan - thadarryl

There are some comics fans for whom the punching, explosions and visual spectacle are the point. There are others that are in it for the storytelling and character development, for whom the action is incidental. You can pretty much tell which is which by noticing which side of the Smallville fence they fall on. Those that are in it strictly for empty eye candy tend to prefer Superman Returns and Batman & Robin. Those that appreciate story tend to gravitate toward Smallville and Nolan's Batman films.

Also, the posters who compare Clark to Neo simply because they both wear trenchcoats really reveal themselves as being very young. For instance, I notice Fanboii said he stopped watching Smallville when he grew pubes, meaning he's so young that Neo was probably the first hero he ever saw with a trenchcoat. Of course, those of us who were already out of puberty when Smallville began know that the comparison is silly.

Smallville is strictly for true Superman fans who understand the history of the character's mythology and can appreciate substance over flash. Those who badmouth it should probably stick with Superman Returns, since it's more their speed. - mojojackson

I think Smallville is the Coolest..I wish I was a neilson rateings viewer so I could help all the other Smallville fans and annoy all you haters by keeping the show on the air another five years.. Who cares about the black outfit..I think its pretty cool honestly..I had even not thought about the matrix until someone on here mentioned it.. Anyway..Keep an open mind people..Like someone said it is the only comic book show on TV and to prove I am not bias..Btw I am MARVEL all the way and I still love this show...Make mine MARVEL...and Smallville!!!!!!! - SpydrSlyr

I can tell its really Clark Kent.

End of this season he will start to wear glasses as Clark Kent. As The Blur he will wear a mask, he will get the idea from the Justice Society. After a few years, when he will be Superman, he will loose the mask, because nobody will remember Clark without the glasses. And he will have short hair and a new suit. - TheFlash

Doesn't anyone remember when Doomsday "killed" Surperman....when Clark returned from the Fortress he was in the Kyrtonian "Warsuit" and he was wearing a black costume with a silver "S" chest shield? Didn't he battle Doomsday last season? - Xtreme866

I hate when a good shows go bad. We can't expect those who are in charge of the show to do any better, they've had 9 years to get it right. He'll wear the costume at the end of the series my ass. Ever get the feeling you were being conned? They will tell you anything to keep you watching. Just another gimmick of the week to get you to tune in. Like Absolute Justice 2 parter turned movie. This show will never live up to anyone's expectations. Atleast not fan's who have high standards.

Deep Down in you know in your heart this show is a abomination. Hell even some of the fan's admit that the show doesn't always rise to the level of their standards. I know it's hard to admit the truth. They didn't sell this show as an elseworlds tale in the beginning. Superman shouldn't be treated this way even in a elsworlds tale and there is no excuse for such a lazy amaturish costume design. You mean to tell me they couldn't come up with anything better, even in black & silver? They had a chance to do something that could have led to Tom Welling up on the big screen. Now I don't think that would be wise.

Once upon a time Smallville was good and it was very good but now it is bad and unfortunately very bad. We are still waiting for Superman to show up. - Wassamattu

I think since Johnathan Kent died in what season 5 that the show has went down hill. It went even further down hill when writers Miller and Gouch left at season 7. If this is Geoff John's interpretation of presenting Superman the Justice League then I have no faith in WB anymore. - Mike Strouss

Haahaaa LMAO, I was just thinking the minute they air this promo special of Smallville, that stool pidgins will be crapping on the Daily Planet. Imagine Clark flying a bunch of Hawks turd then it flys back in clark's face. I don't think of the show as a failure. I think of it as a comedic success. - Johnny B Good

People need to calm down and get their facts straight. What is "staying true to the comics"? The comics are always being rebooted and evolving. Some even influenced by Smallville. Everyone loved The Dark Knight and that wasn't even close to the original material. Did anyone complain that that Batman wasn't wearing grey and bright blue? Or his emblem wasn't yellow and black? It's an evolution of the character. There's a reason it's going into it's 10th season and better than ever. - Visual Assassin
