I was VERY disappointed when I heard about the cancellation of Spider Man 4, and I think the producers and Sony have a director they can now strong arm into making a really bad film. After all, Spider Man 3 was the product of studio marketing research, and look how that turned out... :/ That being said, I will keep an open mind and see what happens in 2012.
